Bots

Definition updated on November 2023

What are Bots?

Bots, also known as "sneaker bots," are computer programs that are specifically designed to quickly and automatically purchase limited-edition sneakers online. These programs are able to bypass website security measures and complete the purchase process in mere seconds, making it nearly impossible for a regular person to compete. As a result, many sneaker companies and retailers have begun using raffles or other methods to distribute limited-edition sneakers, in order to combat the use of bots. Additionally, some online retailers have implemented measures such as captchas to prevent bots from being able to purchase sneakers on their sites. Despite these efforts, bots remain a major issue in the sneaker industry and are a source of frustration for many sneaker enthusiasts.
