Live selling vs listings

Whatnot charges 8% commission in the US plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing on the whole order. On trading cards, the commission stops at $1,500 for now. eBay charges 13.25% on trading cards and 13.6% on most categories, on the item and postage, plus $0.30 to $0.40 per order.

In the UK

Whatnot takes 6.67% + VAT and 2.42% + £0.25. eBay is free for private sellers (the buyer pays) and 10.9% for business sellers in collectables, plus per-order and regulatory fees.

What fees don’t show

Whatnot sales happen in live shows, often at auction, so final prices swing more. eBay gives fixed-price listings and a bigger search audience.

Frequently asked questions

Is Whatnot cheaper than eBay?

In the US, usually. On a $50 trading card with $5 postage, Whatnot takes $5.90 and eBay $7.69. UK private sellers pay nothing on eBay, so eBay is cheaper for them.

Does Whatnot charge fees on shipping?

The commission is on the sale price, but processing (2.9% + $0.30 in the US) is on the whole order, shipping included. eBay charges its final value fee on postage too.
