Tax to pay
€520.00
Over €5,000: a flat 6.5% of the sale price, gain or no gain. You pay it within a month of the sale (form 2091).
Occasional sales of your own things only, not tax advice. The 5% reduction applies per full year held after the second. Social charges stay at 17.2%: the 2026 increase to 18.6% does not apply to these gains (social security code L136-8 IV and L136-7 I 2°). Start freeDo I pay tax when I sell my own things in France?
Not on everyday items, furniture, appliances or a car. Other objects are exempt when sold for €5,000 or less each. Above that, a gain is taxed at 19% plus social charges, reduced the longer you held the item.
What tax applies to jewels and collectors’ items over €5,000?
A flat 6.5% of the sale price (6% tax + 0.5% CRDS), whether you made a gain or not. If you can prove when and for how much you bought it, you can choose the gains regime instead.
Does the DAC7 report mean I owe tax?
No. Platforms report sellers with more than 30 sales or more than €2,000 a year, but that report doesn’t decide tax. Occasional sales of your own things stay untaxed under the rules above.
I buy items to resell them. Does this apply?
No. Buying to resell is a business activity, taxed as income. See the reseller tax calculator for the micro-entrepreneur rules.
Know what each sale really earns
Retailed keeps the purchase price and date of every item, the two things the tax office asks for.
